After a huge effort by the community that lasted 5 years, Drupal 8 release candidate number one is (almost) here. The Drupal Association has a great post about what’s next and how we, as an open-source community, should spread the word about Drupal 8.
For now, we want to share our support for this great new Drupal release by announcing a ‘Made with Drupal 8’ project of our own: Open Social.
Open Social is coming in 2016
Open Social is a distribution for building social communities and intranets inspired on our award winning social community platform. This platform is loosely based on the Commons for Drupal 7.
Open Social is a complete redesign and rewrite of this concept. We are focusing our efforts on creating a minimum viable product (MVP) within roughly 6 months. This is our roadmap:
Q4 2015 - Competitive analysis, interaction design and how-to-demo’s
Q1 2016 - Graphical and UI designs, living style guide, start development sprints
end Q1 2016 - Development prints, 1.0 release ‘MVP’-version
end Q2 2016 - Developments sprints, 1.0 release ‘Distribution’-version
We are running the project from this Drupal.org page: https://www.drupal.org/project/social
A fully responsive front-end concept of the platform can be seen at: http://social.goalgorilla.com/prototype - note that this is just a concept, not our real Open Social prototype.
