For most SEOs Yoast is a well know name. Yoast was founded by Joost de Valk, who eight years ago developed the first version of his WordPress SEO plugin. Now, this module is downloaded more than 21 million times, and has more than 4 million active users. That's making it one of the most popular plugins for WordPress.
We as GoalGorilla, a featured Drupal service provider, have partnered with Yoast to bring the functionality of Yoast's module to Drupal. This is a big step forward for Drupal, which has been historically lacking in marketing tool power.
Freemium model makes open-source better
Yoast and GoalGorilla believe a freemium business model in which a basic module is free, but advanced support is paid, increases the quality of the product which in turn allows it to compete stronger with proprietary, closed-source alternatives.
Taco Potze, development director at GoalGorilla;
"The freemium model for modules has not been very common in the Drupal open-source community, so far. We expect to have a healthy and constructive discussion about the benefits and problems with this model. I strongly believe that it strengthens the community in the long run."
